- MIDI
- LilyPond
- Copyright: Public Domain—the arrangement (or the extra parts and the alterations on the bass part) were released to the public domain by the arranger/contributer on 16 Oct 2007.
- Contributer: Veramet 20:09, 16 October 2007 (MDT)
- Contributer notes: There are a couple parts of this song that sound like they need some editing: the first set of sixteenth notes, and the last sixteenth notes in the third system. If you have any suggestions for improvement, please note (I know the first set of sixteenth notes could be made like those on the second system, but if you have any other ideas, that would be great). Tunes
- Charity[1] (also known as I Love Thee[2][3][4]), by Jeremiah Ingalls, 1805 (this is the tune used in A Collection of Sacred Hymns for the Use of the Latter Day Saints, 1844; it was also set to a hymn called I Love Thee, also by Jeremiah Ingalls, though these lyrics are sometimes attributed to John Adam Granade)

Lyrics from A Collection of Sacred Hymns, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1841
Hymn 299 11's. 1. Awake, ye that slumber, arise from the dust! Awake! gird your armor, in God put your trust; The "sword of the spirit" be firm in your grasp, The "hope of salvation" your brows shall inclasp. 2. Awake! wield the armor that God hath prepared, The rights of the poor and defenseless to guard; Rear the standard of truth, let your motto be love, And show by your conduct, the wisdom above. 3. Awake! for the tyrant your home doth invade, And the joys of your fireside in sadness are laid; Arise, and the heart of the bigot shall fail, And the legions of error no longer prevail. 4. Awake! and bid bigotry flee from the world, And fell superstition to darkness be hurled, Let creeds and tradition before you recede, And nothing the conquests of truth shall impede. 5. Awake from your slumbers! 'tis duty that calls— 'Tis duty that bids you to guard Zion's walls! Will ye sleep when oppression hath marshaled her clan To crush to the earth the bright prospects of man? 6. Awake! will ye slumber while charity pleads! And religion from fiends hypocritic still bleeds? Will you sleep while her altars are reeking with gore, And the life-blood of victims unceasingly pour? 7. Awake from your slumbers! oh, why will you sleep, While the daughters of Zion in sadness must weep! Will you patiently yield your vile necks to the yoke, Nor rise in your strength 'gainst the tyrant's proud stroke? 8. Awake! then, ye sleepers, how can you forbear? And the badge of submission eternally wear? Arise! for the welfare of man is at stake Awake from your slumbers, ye sleepers AWAKE.
Lyrics from A Collection of Sacred Hymns for the Use of the Latter Day Saints, 1844
1. Awake ye that slumber, arise from the dust!
Awake! gird your armor, in God put your trust;
The sword of the spirit be firm in your grasp,
The hope of salvation your brows shall inclasp.
2. Awake! wield the armor that God hath prepared,
The rights of the poor and defenceless to guard;
Rear the standard of truth, let your motto be love,
And show by your conduct, the wisdom above.
3. Awake! for the tyrant your home doth invade,
And the joys of your fireside in sadness are laid;
Arise, and the heart of the bigot shall fail,
And the legions of error no longer prevail.
4. Awake! and bid bigotry flee from the world,
And fell superstition to darkness be hurled,
Let creeds and tradition before you recede,
And nothing the conquests of truth shall impede.
5. Awake from your slumbers! 'tis duty that calls -
'Tis duty that bids you to guard Zion's wall!
Will ye sleep when oppression hath marshalled her clan
To crush to the earth the bright prospects of man?
6. Awake! will ye slumber while charity pleads!
And religion from fiends hypocritic still bleeds?
Will ye sleep while her altars are reeking with gore,
And the lifeblood of victims unceasingly pour?
7. Awake from your slumbers! oh, why will you sleep,
While the daughters of Zion in sadness must weep!
Will you patiently yield your vile necks to the yoke,
Nor rise in your strength 'gainst the tyrant's proud stroke?
8. Awake! then, ye sleepers, how can you forbear?
And the badge of submission eternally wear?
Arise! for the welfare of man is at stake
Awake from your slumbers, ye sleepers awake.
