You've been hacked
It looks like you got one of the pages, but this page is also in your wiki: Politics slows Congress in 2007. It happened to a wiki that I maintain, too. Once you start getting hacked, you'll keep getting hacked. They have a randome username generator, so you'll have to block new users every couple of days. What I did is install a thing on my wiki that made it so that you have to type in a math formula if you're trying to add content with external links. That totally stopped all of the spam, without making it too much of a pain for users, since most users add content rather than links. I don't know the link to the thing I installed, but you should be able to find one. Also, you should check Special:Newpages to make sure that you clean out all of the spam pages. 63.82.19.2 11:01, 3 January 2008 (MST)
- This wiki is a little different in what most users do. Links are common with music (this isn't an encyclopedia, per se; it's more of a repository for hymns, hymn information, and helpful things about hymns—though it can be used like an encyclopedia). I use links a lot, anyway: so it would be a huge hassle for me. Do you have any other ideas? Do you think just doing that at account creation would fix the problem? I think it would be better if we could do that for all users except for approved users (that way, if I know someone's not a spammer, I can make it so they don't have to do it). Is that currently an option with MediaWiki? Thanks for the help, by the way. Veramet 23:36, 8 January 2008 (MST)
- Another idea would be to make it so initial posts are moderated (i.e. they don't show up until approved, and if they're not approved, they don't get posted). However, I think they should start to show up without moderation after one to three posts have been approved. Veramet 23:40, 8 January 2008 (MST)
Stop the vandalism
Please, please install something on your site that stops the vandals. They're bot vandals, too, so they should be easy to stop. 166.70.37.238 22:19, 7 January 2008 (MST)
- I'll have to contact the people in charge of that and see what they think (although I'm the founder, I don't have access to the wiki software, nor the ability change it in and of myself). Veramet 23:14, 8 January 2008 (MST)
