Lyrics from A Collection of Sacred Hymns for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Europe, 1840

Hymn 154
C.M.
1. Thus was the great Redeemer plunged
In Jordan's swelling flood,
To show he must be soon baptised
In tears, and sweat, and blood.

2. Thus was his sacred body laid
Beneath the yielding wave;
Thus was his sacred body raised
Out of the liquid grave.

3. Lord, we thy precepts would obey,
In thy own footsteps tread;
Would die, be buried, rise with thee,
Our ever-living head.
