This tune is known to have been published at least as early as 1889, in [[Latter-day Saints Psalmody, 1889|Latter-day Saints Psalmody]], no. 282, with the lyrics, 'How Firm a Foundation'. There may be earlier publications, but if so, HymnWiki has yet to hear about them (please contribute). The said Psalmody did not mention any composer information, although other sources attribute it to J. Ellis. The tune is also known as 'Boundless Salvation', 'My Jesus I Love Thee', 'Affection' and perhaps other names.

Metrically the tune is in the form 11 11 11 6 6 11, though it is described as "11 11 11 11 with repeats".
